About Us

The Central Library of Providence Women’s College is a hub for reading, learning, and experiencing the largest collection of learning resources in the arts, humanities, commerce, science, social sciences, and Technology. The Library supports the research and educational needs of Students, Research Scholars, and the Faculties of the College. The library provides need-based services and orientation for accessing online information resources using modern Information and Communication Technologies.

The library started functioning at the inception of the college in 1952 with a minimum of books and facilities. In the year 2023, the library moved into a 42,000-square-foot multifunctional library building with all modern infrastructure. The ambience of the Library is appealing and user-friendly, and it is automated with the latest software and Wi-Fi network.

The library is automated with the Koha Open Source Integrated Library Management System (ILMS). The library is using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system to organise the knowledge collection, and Dspace software is used for institutional repository service. The library has a good collection of documents on all subjects, and the total collection of books is around 60,500. The Library has membership in the INFLIBNET, NLIST, and Delnet consortiums and accesses more than 6,000 e-journals from them. The library is individually subscribing to both Indian and foreign journals and magazines. The library is regularly updating the new arrivals of books and journal issues for students and faculty members. Regular Orientation programmes are given to library members. The timing is 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. All the students, faculty members, and staff are members of the library.
