UGC Librarian
Dr Prasanth MP, a native of Wayanad District, joined Providence Womens College as UGC Librarian recently. Before that he served at Chinmaya Institute of Technology (Chintech) as the Chief Librarian and on deputation Chinmaya Viswavidapeeth Deemed to University total 13+ years, after a year of service with District Library, Kalpetta, & Govt Engineering College, Mananthavady in Wayanad District. A Commerce Graduate with Specialization in Insurance Management, Mr Prasanth moved into the world of Library Science with a Graduation & Post Graduation in Library Science from Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu. An avid learner, he followed it up with an MBA from Bharathiar University. He has also qualified the UGC- NET exam in Library and Information Science in 2014. He is completed PhD in Library Science from Bharathiar University, Tamil Nadu. In the topic of Public Library automation in Kerala Using Koha software. To keep himself updated to the requirements of the job environment, Prasanth has also done Diploma Programmes in MS Office, Financial Accounting, Stores Management (Indian Institute of Materials Management, Navi Mumbai), and in Information Storage & Retrieval from the SWAYAM Platform. He is well versed in the Koha Library Automation Software and is a sought after Resource person for the District Library Council and TEQUIP Funded National Workshops. He has successfully coordinated three workshops in Koha ILS and conducted more than twenty workshops on his own. He is also familiar with the DSpace, Greenstone, WordPress and OJS platforms and Linux OS. He has published nine research papers in the field of Library Science and one of his papers was awarded the Best Paper Award at the Mysore University National Conference in 2017. He also regularly attends training programmes conducted across the breadth of the country to update his skills. He is also a Life Member of the Indian Library Association & Kerala Library Association as well as the OISCA International. He is actively involved in the State wide project of Library Council for automating all District Public Libraries across the state using KOHA ILS.
